Envoy of Italian Specialities with a Pinch of Local: Osteria Restaurant-Malindi.

I could bet that you wouldn’t mind to cruise on an ocean of Italian spices; a cocktail of it’s millennial creativity and ancient theatrical pieces. And once that has calm your stares, Osteria Restaurant isn’t shy to twist a traditional Italian ambience with a blend of Swahili and African interiors. A voodoo that marries these cultures with a convincing promise, well how about a review yeah?

A list of Risotti options (Italian rice delicacy), a ton of pastries and over 60 varieties of pizza to mention but a few, Osteria Restaurant and Ice cream is serving us a taste of Italy right here in Malindi, Kenya. They have two outlets: one on a beach road (sea front road) and the other one right by the beach (silversands road) both offering a wide menu of Italian cuisine with a twist of the local feel. You will be spoilt for choices when it comes to seafood and pasta options and guess what? They also have the famous Italian affogato (Italian dessert which includes ice cream drowned in something say an espresso shot).

After an eventful morning thinking of a schedule for my blog, I head over to Osteria Restaurant (Seafront Road) with my BFF for lunch and dessert. The ambience at the sea front road outlet was inviting and full of life. If you’ve been to Osteria, drop a comment and tell me your experience and if not, are you giving it a thought?

As Roberto, the restaurant manager, welcomed us, I spot a couple chatting and feeling the vibe. There’s also a huge family seated sharing some laughter while enjoying their meal and we head to sit right next to the view. We sit, preparing to order our lunch and I can’t help but notice a whole local beach life going on right outside the restaurant.

Being a fan of pizza, I opted to try the prawns masala pizza and it was worth a try. Now this is not a delicacy you would not find in a traditional Italian Restaurant which brings us down to the thing I like most about Osteria Restaurant.

They serve you Italian sprinkled with some local feel making it appealing for people from all walks of life. The price range is also set in a way that you could come with your family and spend on a lavish lunch or share a meal at an affordable price. The service we received was amazing with Oscar and Martha making us feel at home.

We sit and enjoy our crusty yummy pizza as we watch the island life beside us: there’s a fisherman delivering some fish and on the other side there’s an elderly man serving people some fresh coconut water popularly known as madafu. The pizza was delicious mixed with flavour and spice: just how I like it!

For dessert, I obviously went for ice cream which is one of the things Osteria is popularly known for: their authentic Italian Gelato. The pistachio and some vanilla with choco flakes gave me a direct ticket to an ice cream parlour in the heart of Milan.

Fun Fact: Osteria make their own home made Ice Cream every morning.

Evening at The Beach Restaurant

A calm, peaceful spot facing the ocean, Osteria Beach Restaurant is a perfect place to wind up your day. I spent the evening enjoying my cappuccino and a chocolate bon bon as the sound of waves and windy palm trees sooth my mind and soul. This is the ultimate definition of ‘escape from reality’.

I end the day with an Ipanema mocktail which was an infusion of bursty flavours. It is a mixture of lime, passion fruit and some ginger! The interesting fact about Osteria is that they come up with a number of their own cocktails to serve you something unique.I was seated enjoying the sea breeze and all I could think of is being grateful for all the blessings life has given me.

From walls that illuminate artistic freedom with their richness in art to the calmness and chilled vibe by the beach, Osteria Restaurants have stolen my heart in so many ways. Or I guess it was the aroma of fresh gelato playing tiramisu with my focal intelligence. Regardless, Osteria is a total recommend!
